Signs + Symptoms
Transmission
Rotavirus is transmitted through feces and is contagious while the infected person is symptomatic and for 3 days after symptoms resolve.
Rotavirus is most prevalent in the winter and spring.
There is no specific treatment for rotavirus, doctors treat symptoms as they arise.

Rotavirus disease is more prevalent in young children. It takes approximately 2 days for symptoms to appear after coming into contact with the disease. Symptoms can include:

decreased urination

abdominal pain
-
diarrhea
-
fever
-
vomiting
-
dry mouth and throat
-
feeling dizzy when standing up
-
crying with few or no tears and
-
fatigue
Complications
The most common complication of rotavirus is dehydration due to severe vomiting and diarrhea. If dehydration is severe, it can lead to hospitalization and the need for IV fluids.
