How to Tell if Your Child Cannot Regulate their Emotions?

When discussing emotional regulation, it is important to remember that it is a skill that children must learn. If your child is struggling with their emotions, that does not mean that they have emotional dysregulation. It simply means that your child is still learning how to regulate their emotions. “Emotional dysregulation can be observed as intense or extreme emotional responses to a situation, aggression, impulsivity, avoiding behaviours, difficulty calming themselves and difficulty knowing what emotion they are actually feeling and especially, drastic changes in mood” (Shyminsky K., 2013). If you suspect your child has emotional dysregulation, please consult your healthcare provider.
